TIPS FOR THE RACE WEEKEND

Whether you’re heading to Circuit of The Americas for the first time or you’re already a regular at the Texas road course, a bit of preparation can make your NASCAR weekend in Austin far smoother and more enjoyable. From avoiding traffic jams to staying comfortable through a long day outdoors, here are a few helpful tips to make the most of your experience.

Arrive early. Race weekend crowds can be heavy–especially on Saturday and Sunday–so plan to reach the circuit by late morning. Gates usually open early, and arriving ahead of the rush gives you time to explore the Fan Zone, check out team merchandise, grab a bite to eat, and take in the pre-race atmosphere without feeling rushed.

Pack smart. Fans are allowed to bring their own snacks and non-alcoholic drinks, which can help you stay energized and save a few dollars. Just avoid glass containers and oversized coolers. Late March weather in Austin is generally warm and sunny, but conditions can change quickly. Wear light clothing, bring a hat and sunscreen, and keep hydrated throughout the day. A small poncho or rain jacket can also be useful in case of a quick spring shower.

Plan for traffic and parking. Roads around COTA, especially FM 812 and Elroy Road, tend to get congested on race days. Allow plenty of extra travel time and follow posted traffic signs or local police directions. If you can, purchase parking in advance–it’s cheaper and ensures a smoother arrival. Fans using rideshare services should follow the dedicated pick-up and drop-off zones located at the McAngus parking lot. Visitors using rideshare can take advantage of a free tram running between McAngus and the Grand Plaza.

Make the most of your day. Once inside, take time to explore everything the venue offers. Walk up the hill to Turn 1 for one of the best panoramic views of the track, or visit the Fan Zone for live music, displays, and driver Q&A sessions. Keep in mind that mobile reception can be limited when the crowds are large, so if you’re attending with friends or family, set a meeting point in advance in case you get separated.

Stay comfortable and enjoy the experience. COTA’s large layout means you’ll do plenty of walking, so wear comfortable shoes and bring a light backpack for your essentials. With great Texas food, friendly fans, and the roar of NASCAR engines echoing across the hills, it’s one of the most memorable race weekends on the calendar.
